CMS detector

Which content management system is a website using? Enter its address and TechLookup checks the page for the fingerprints of WordPress, Shopify, Wix, Squarespace, Drupal, Webflow and hundreds of other platforms. Free, no account needed.

The report opens with the answer in one line, such as "example.com is a WordPress site" or "an online store on Shopify", followed by the rest of the stack: the theme or page builder where one is detectable, the frameworks, analytics and marketing tools on the page, and where the site is hosted.

How a CMS is recognised

Every platform leaves traces in the page it serves. WordPress announces itself in a generator meta tag and loads scripts from its wp-content and wp-includes folders. Shopify stores load from the Shopify CDN and set Shopify cookies. Wix, Squarespace, Webflow and Drupal each have their own paths, headers and markup. TechLookup loads the home page in a real browser and matches what it sees against a public database of technology fingerprints, so a CMS that hides its generator tag is still usually recognised by its other traces.

A detection means the fingerprint was present when we scanned the home page. It can be wrong when a site mixes platforms, for instance a WordPress marketing site with a Shopify checkout, and the report shows both. Sites behind bot protection may show us less than they show you.

Popular content management systems

Open a platform to see how many indexed websites use it, its share of the CMS category and the sites themselves.

The CMS category ranks every platform we can detect by usage, and pages such as Wix vs WordPress or Shopify vs WooCommerce put two of them side by side.

Is the CMS detector free?

Yes. Visitors get 5 website lookups a day, and a free account raises that. Lists of websites by platform, filters and CSV export are part of the paid plans.
